How many specific species of primate are currently in existence is a little unclear. The highest estimates are around 350 different species of primates, while the lowest ones are down near 190. Most mainstream estimates have the number between 230 and 270. This confusion in exact estimation comes from many species becoming extinct due to environmental encroachment and new species being discovered every few years. DNA sequencing data may help us get a more accurate number in the future.
Here is a helpful tree of primates.
Primates are special mammals. They make up a big portion of the mammal populous, and they are organized into three main groups: apes (a catergory in which humans also belong), monkeys and prosimians
