How many species has the Obama administration protected so far?

During its first year in office, the Obama administration has so far listed only two new species on the Endangered Species List.  This is out of at least 250 species listed as “threatened,” but which have yet to be officially listed for protection.  In a surprising turn of events, Obama has listed fewer species during his first year in office than George W. Bush did during his first year as president.  In his first year, Bush listed 11 species – still a very low number compared to other recent presidents, but the Obama administration has done even worse.  It is to be hoped that the Obama administration will get its act together very soon, and give urgently needed listings to many more species.
