There are only two kinds of native North American deer. The most common is the white tail deer. The other is the mule deer. The black tail deer, also called the Pacific Coastal or Columbia deer is only a regional variation of the mule deer, but has enough individuality to be considered its own subspecies. The other subspecies include the Sitka deer of Alaska, the Coues deer, and the Florida Key deer.
