It’s impossible to find an exact answer as the number of species vary by area, and it is likely that there are still species yet to be discovered. The website for the Kapawi Ecolodge & Reserve (located near the border of Ecuador and Peru) explains that 570 species of birds have been recorded in the area in the last seven years. This site lists some numbers for species of birds by country. Countries like Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Venezuela have areas covered by tropical rainforests and their species of birds number well over a thousand. Hope this helps!
In the Amazon basin, the area where the Amazon river and all it’s tributaries drain (basically the core of the Amazon rain forest), over 1500 bird species have been recorded. Birds from many different families live here, passerines, raptors and many more.
