Since 1967 about 45 members have been added each year. The total number of species on the list has risen 66%. The list is constantly changing, so it is hard to say exactly because species are added or removed each year. The first year (1967) the list started it identified 73 endangered species, then anohter 51 were added in 1970. The list was expanded by Congress globally and today tehre are about 1,963 species on the list. Five hundred and eighty six of those are foriegn. 47 of those species have been delisted; 17 because of errors; 9 because they went extinct; 21 because they were recovered. About 27,000 species worldwide become extinct each year.
