    In 2008, the last year with available data, an estimated 110 tons of white shrimp were landed in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as 86 million tons of brown shrimp, totally about 196 million tons. However, the BP oil spill will no doubt cut into that number for this year, as several fishing grounds have been closed after shrimp fished there were found covered in oil. No one can say for sure what the numbers will be in the next several years
