There have been 108 shark attacks off the coast of California between 1990 and 1999, which means there has been an annual average of around 11 shark attacks a year.
There have only been about 100 confirmed shark attacks 1926-2009, so the number is very, very small annually.
There has been an increasing number of shark attacks on the West Coast, 42 all along the Pacific Coast sense 2000. Between 1990 and 1999 there were 108 attacks. Out of the 42 this decade there have only been 3 fatalities, and the Great White Shark was to blame for every attack in 2008
