Currently, rhino poaching has reached its highest peak in over a decade. From 2000 to 2005, an average of about 3.5 rhinoceroses were poached each month across Africa. However, in 2008, about 162 rhinos were illegally killed in South Africa and Zimbabwe alone! Then, another 62 were poached in the first half of 2009. Despite the fact that rhino populations in Africa are rising, poaching is still a major concern.
This is a serious problem, we need to figure out a way to protect the population that we have left or we may be talking about them in the future the way we are talking about tigers now.
