According to a recent IUCN report, 162 rhinoceroses were killed in South Africa and Zimbabwe in 2008, with another 62 illegally poached in the first half of 2009. Over the past three years over 200 rhinos have been killed in Zimbabwe alone. A total of 48 rhinoceroses were killed in Asia from 2005-mid 2009. The IUCN feels that although rhino populations have been increasing, poaching appears to also be on the rise.
