How many climate refugees could be created by Himalayan floods and droughts?

The mountain glaciers of the Himalayas provide drinking water for almost a billion people in southern Asia, who are threatened by water shortages if melting trends continue.  This is a truly signfificant fraction of the global population, and the situation has potential to create environmental disaster the like of which has never been seen before.  Almost a billion people could find their main water supply cut off, and become climate refugees.  The economic and security implications of the melting Himalayan glaciers – on both South Asia and the world – are truly alarming to contemplate.
