Every fall, four to six million individual raptors pass through the Mexican state of Veracruz, along with many other types of migratory birds. The geography of the area funnels migrating birds from western, central, and eastern North America together in this one place, creating the most concentrated raptor flyway in the world. The migrating birds are mainly made up of species leaving their summer ranges in the US and Canada, and heading down to Central or South America for the winter. HawkWatch International leads guided tours of the migration flyway every fall.
