The amount of thrust necessary for a plane to generate enough lift to fly is proportionate to the plane’s drag and weight. A plane flies because of air pressure differences between the top and bottom of the wing, the air pushes up on the wing because lower pressure is on the top and creates lift which keeps the plane in the air. The bigger the plane the more thrust it will need to fly because it will need to generate more lift.
