How many POPs are there in use?

There are hundreds and possibly thousands of intentional and unintentional POPs in use today but the primary POPs known, often referred to as the “Dirty Dozen”, are beginning to be phased out and regulated in the United States. Those whose registration has been cancelled (and therefore banned) include DDT, chlordane, aldrin and dieldrin, endrin, mirex, and toxaphene. POPs that are still being used in some capacity include heptachlor, hexachlorobenzene, PCBs, dioxins and furans.
