How many people in the world still live nomadic lifestyles? Is this a more sustainable way to live?

It is difficult to give an exact estimate, as most nomadic peoples live far from society and are difficult to accurately count. The most widely known nomadic population is the Bedouin of Sinai and Arabian peninsulas. It is estimated that there are several million Bedouin spread across the Middle East, though many are moving to cities and ceasing their nomadic ways. I would say the Bedouin lifestyle is probably one of the most sustainable, as they have been living that way for the past 500 years without major impact on the desert.
