According to center for economic and policy research, about $300 million is used a month on wages of workers towards offshore drilling rigs that have been idled by President Obama’s moratorium on new deep water drilling. A average worker earns about $100,000 a year, the industry’s claim about lost wages would imply that it was employing about 36,000 workers, which is about more than 1,000 on each idled rig.
