In the United States, some 174,000 people are directly employed in some part of the coal industry; about 85,000 work in the wind energy industry, and I’m having trouble finding US solar industry employment statistics, but this article estimates about 800,000 worldwide.
Here‘s an article that claims that the wind industry now employs more people than the coal industry, but the numbers given for coal seem low.
