As of 2005, about 81% of the American population resides in cities. That means that roughly 232,080,000 Americans are city residents.
Only India and China have more urban residents, with 312,887,000 and 535,958,000 people, respectively.
The UN reports the number at 242,236,000 in 2005, with a projected urban population at 258,998,000 in 2010 and 363,768,000 in 2050.
Although China and India have higher numbers of urban populations, the percentages of the total populations are still low, with only 40% urban in China and 29% in India.
