The population of Antarctica varies; though there are no indigenous people on the continent, many scientists are stationed there to do research at different times of the year. During the winter (June-August), approximately 1,100 people are present. In the summer (December-February), the number rises to nearly 4,500. These scientists come from countries all across the world to conduct their research.
