How many people live in 3rd world countries?

    According to this article,, 12 percent of the world’s population doesn’t live in third world countries, which mean 88 percent of the world’s population live in third world countries. 88 percent of 7 billion is about 6.2 billion. I suspect this number is a bit high. The definition of third world vs. developing countries is not very clear most of the time. Nonetheless, I believe its safe to say that there are more people living in third world countries than those living in first world countries.
