The number of people that travel through the Panama Canal aren’t tracked nearly as much as the number of vessels. In 2008, 14,702 vessels traveled through the canal. This is huge in comparison to early years. About 32 vessels pass through the canal every day, and yearly averages of cargo passing through averages to about 140 million tons.
