23 people died in the landslide in Northern China. This happened near a coal mine in the Shanxi provence. The people who died were migrant workers from the southern Yunnan provence. In 2008, there were a quoted 3,200 deaths in coal mines in China. Regulations for mine safety have come into play recently, and quite a few smaller mines have been shut down because of infractions.
