Rock climbing results in about 3 1/2 deaths per year – This pertains to tied in climbing, i’m not sure if it also includes bouldering and free climbing; The death rates for free climbing are probably lower than you might think, despite the inherent and large risks, free climbing usually only is undertaken by seasoned and knowledgeable veterans who climb routes well within their skill range – thats why you generally hear about the deaths as a highlight in the news – for usually only higher profile climbers free climb.
