So far this year, flooding has killed at least 2,000 people in China and caused tens of billions of dollars in damage.
Other years have not seen as many Chinese people killed in floods, but still high numbers. In 2009, at least 66 people were killed by flooding in the Sichuan, Jiangxi, Hunan and Guizhou provinces, and in the summer of 2008, flooding claimed the lives of about 190 people. 2007 was another terrible year for flooding in China, and at least 730 people were killed in various events.
