The book “Mortality in Flood Disasters”, by Z. and W. Kundzewicz (2005), puts annual flood related deaths in the hundreds of thousands, on average, every year. This figure does shift wildly from year to year as various floods will be larger or smaller depending on seasonal conditions. Accurate estimates are also hard to come by with numbers varying drastically for anyone given flood depending on the recording organization. With that in mind, and the global population being around 6 billion, that means that close to 16.5 million people survive floods each day.
