World Environment Day was hosted by India this year, June 5, with several events leading up to WED, starting June 2. I couldn’t find out how many people participated all over the world, but the WED website said that thousands participated in India, including 8,362 bank employees, who made a “pledge for the planet,” using lower-energy light bulbs and taking the stairs to work, in honor of WED.
In Melbourne, 10,000 people crowded onto lawn’s of Melbourne’s State Library to rally for the importance of going green while listening to speakers.
Earth Day, on the other hand, is the largest secular holiday in the world, and has an estimated half billion participants each year (just in case you wanted to know).
