BBC reports that one in fifty children in England are allergic to nuts. On a much larger scale, the British Medical Journal reports that 1.3% of the general population is allergic to nuts.
Not as many as you would think, though a peanut allergy is the most common sort of food allergy amongst kids and adults. Peanut allergies are especially common in children, and no more than 20% outgrow this allergy. According to Dr. Gupta, 8% of children have food allergies, and the most common is a peanut allergy. Severe peanut allergies(the kind we see in movies where people plot to poison someone) are far less common than mild allergies.
