In 2009 World Oil estimated 37,204 wells were drilled in the US. They forecast (in Feb. 2010) based on surveys of oil companies’ plans, that for 2010 there would be 42,749 wells drilled in the US. It is much more challenging to project total world drilling because state-owned oil companies do not always release such information, ever. But it is reasonable to expect that the world total outside the US will be considerably less than the US number.
