It’s hard to get that kind of statistics. Based on US Energy Information Administration, US imported 865 million barrels of crude oil from the Middle East in 2008. I’m using the widest definition of Middle East (for example, including Egypt). The total was 3,581 million barrels, so Middle East imports constitute about 24%.
Now, according to the Maritime Administration of the US Dept. of Transportation, there were 7,307 calls at US ports of foreign crude oil tankers in 2008. Using our estimate of 24%, about 1,750 of these came from Middle East.
