There are two active nuclear power plants stated on the official California website.  The first one is located in Diablo Canyon, near San Luis Obispo, and the second plant is in San Onofre, in Southern California.  The state of California also has four other nuclear power plants and one experimental plant that are no longer used.  They are the Santa Susana Sodium Reactor Experimental, Vallecitos Nuclear Power Plant, Humboldt Bay Nuclear Power Plant, Rancho Seco Nuclear Power Plant, and San Onofre Unit 1 Pressurized Water Reactor.

According to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, there are four operating reactors in California. There are two in the Diablo Canyon Power Plant, and two in the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. So that’s two plants total.
