How many new species get found every year?

Despite mounting threats to global biodiversity, scientists are still discovering some 13,000 new species every year. Expect these numbers to climb as more and more field biologists are trained; expect them to fall as global warming, exploitation, and other anthropogenic harms continue to increase the risk of species loss.
