How many muscles do we have in our bodies?

It’s difficult to say EXACTLY how many muscles there are, as scientists don’t all agree on what the definition of a “muscle” is.  Roughly, the answer is about 640 to 850.  There are about 640 voluntary or skeletal muscles, which you use to move your body parts.  Then there are involuntary or “smooth” muscles that help your organs to work, and cardiac muscles in your heart.
