Population of mule deer population has fluctuated between 1978 and 2001 from lows fewer than 100,000. to highs of 221,220. Fluctuations of populations of mule deer are due to various factors such as drought, habitat degradation and increased predation.
There are now about 221,220 mule deer in the United States according to the census taken by Texas Parks and Wildlife biologists.
