Volvo is planning on releasing the first plug-in diesel hybrid vehicles in 2012 in Europe first. The V70 is still in its testing and development stages. This car is supposed to go the first 30 miles only on diesel and then 745 miles of diesel and batteries. The fuel economy is predicted to be 120 mpg. Peugeot-Citroen will also release a diesel hybrid model but it will not be a plug-in.
The car is not due to show rooms until 2012, but right now Volvo is claiming that the vehicle will get an equivalent to 120 miles a gallon – that’s the counting the diesel engine and the range of the batteries.
