No one can know for sure, of course. It largely depends on human demand for ivory, and whether governments can crack down on illegal ivory trading and elephant poaching. Current elephant populations aren’t stable. By one estimate, elephants may not be around in natural populations in a hundred years. Nevertheless, we will likely always have some in captivity, saving elephants from extinction.
