    There were 9,500 hybrid cars sold in the U.S. in 2000 and in 2010 there were 274,211 sold in the U.S. When compared, there were approximately 264,000 more cars sold in 2010 then in 2000 (Market Sales Figures)

    Keep in mind that sales are closely tied to the number of available hybrids for sale. According to fueleconomy.gov, there was only one hybrid available for retail sale in 2000.
