There are a range of estimates on how far foods travel but the general range is between 1,300 – 2,000 miles, with an estimate of 1,500 the norm, from the place where it is produced to the place you eat it. This huge amount of transport distance, and the immense amount of embodied energy used in the process, is one of the main reasons local food products represent more sustainable choices for food supply.
