How many lynx are left?

There are four different species of lynx, which include Lynx lynx, Lynx canadensis, Lynx pardinus, and Lynx rufus. It would be very difficult to determine the exact number of lynx in the world. Although the estimated number of lynx in Romania is over 2,000, many experts think that the number is actually lower. The lynx population in Romania is believed to be the largest lynx population in Europe outside of Russia. In 2000, the Canadian Lynx was listed as a threatened species by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. The Iberian lynx is nearly extinct. In many countries, lynx hunting is illegal.

Lynx are forest-dwelling species, and many of them are threatened by habitat destruction. The Iberian Lynx, native to Spain, is one of the most endangered felines in the world. There are only about 100 individuals left in the wild.
