How many light bulbs are used in a year in the United States?

While I don’t know the answer to that exact question, here is what I do know: Every year Americans buy more than one billion incandescent light bulbs. That is three acres worth of light bulbs(if we’re talking in terms of landfill…). If Americans were to buy flourescent bulbs instead, that number would decrease dramatically. A flourescent bulb lasts ten times longer than their incandescent counterparts, shedding light for anywhere between 7500-10000 hours non-stop, while incandescent bulbs last a mere 750 hours–at the same wattage!
