The estimated population of lemurs living in their native habitat of Madagascar in 2008 was approximately 750,000. This figure is about half of what it was in the 1950s. However, experts are optimistic about the future of the animals. New species have been discovered in recent years, and both conservation efforts and awareness are increasing in Madagascar and worldwide.
