    The Earth’s atmosphere is made up of five layers, distinguished by temperature, density, chemical composition, and movement. From the ground up, they are: troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere. In between each layer is a “pause,” where the most extreme changes in characteristics are found.
