In Texas, I know that there is only One natural lake– that’s Lake Caddo. The other 200+ are reservoirs behind dams, or other artificial lakes. I’m not sure how much that reflects other places, but it’s interesting food for thought. There are over 79,000 dams in the United States and if each one has a reservoir behind it, as most do, than that’s at least 75,000 man-made lakes.
