How many indigenous peoples are left in the world? How are they being affected by the environmental changes caused by modern society?

There are hundreds of indigenous nations in the world, meaning thousands of aboriginal people. Many indigenous people have special relationships with the environment, as they see it as a way to sustain themselves and a connection with their ancestors who have gone before them. Thus, indigenous peoples are often exceptional guardians of nature, using only what they need. Thus, it can be argued that the current assault on nature similarly assaults the indigenous peoples.
