Currently, Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) manages and maintains 29 hydroelectric dams across the Tennessee River system. They also maintain a one-pumped storage facility, which is used for the production of electricity.
On the Little Tennessee River there are 4 Alcoa dams and on the Cumberland River there are 8 dams run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. These dams along with the ones run by the TVA contribute to the TVA power system.
Hydropower is a leading renewable energy source and one of the most reliable, efficient and economical energy sources used in the U.S.A today.
