Mercedes-Benz is set to release its first hybrid, the S400 in 2010. The company is the first to use a lithium-ion battery pack, although the S400 will not be able to operate in battery-only mode. Base price is $87,950. The company also released the ML450, which is the first gas-diesel-hybrid vehicle. Mercedes discussed its plans for a 20% hybrid future at the Frankfurt auto show, including hybrid designs for C-class, CLS, SL and SLK as well as a hydrogen fuel cell powered B-class.
