If by green college you mean a school that has net-zero carbon emissions and teaches only environmental subjects, there isn’t one. The latest trend in colleges, however, is improving energy efficiency and bringing new buildings up to a higher efficiency standard.
Sierra Magazine produces an annual Top 20 Green Colleges based on the categories of efficiency, energy, food, academics, purchasing, transportation, waste management, and administration. New standards for LEED-certified buildings, local and organic produce in the dining hall, energy-efficient public transportation and other efforts contributed to the scores.
This is great news. The United States has extensive infrastructure, from university systems to transportation systems to neighborhoods that have existed for hundreds of years. The key for improved energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact is taking what we already have and making it better, which is what these schools are doing.
