how many glass bottles are thrown every year?

Difficult to find a specific number, but according to various statistics, every two weeks, Americans throw away enough glass bottles to completely fill the (former) 1,350 foot twin towers in New York City.

If we recycled all of those bottles instead, we would have a lot of extra energy as recycling one glass bottle saves enough energy to run a 100-watt light bulb for 4 hours!

Unfortunately, when the glass gets thrown out, it could take up to 4,000 years for it to decompose.  Even longer if it’s chucked into a landfill.
