Vehicles emit carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and volatile organic compounds that can all contribute to the greenhouse effect. Furthermore the combination of these chemicals can also produce ozone which also can augment the greenhouse effect. The carbon, of course, is the major contributor and the most well known. Regular gas motors emit about 8.74 kg of carbon per gallon and diesel motors emit about 10.64 kg per gallon.
