How many gallons of oil were recovered from the gulf?

    The oil spill this year was estimated at over 205 million gallons of oil spilled into the gulf of Mexico.  Over 75% of the oil from the spill remains in the gulf.  Therefore, about 51.25 million gallons of oil have been removed or dispersed by directly recovering the oil.  The other 75% are still in the ocean, they just have been dispersed by chemicals or moved somewhere else by the ocean currents.
