How many gallons of fuel are burned in airplanes every day?

The US consumes 1,406,000 barrels (x42 = 59,000,000 gallons) of jet fuel every day (as of the week ending March 11, 2011). That does not answer your question, because plenty of non-jet planes are flying that do not use jet fuel and that’s only the US. But it is a start.
