How many fresh water species of fish are there?

    About 13,000. According to, a global information system about fish species and diversity, there are currently 31,300 known species of fish in the world. And according to 2005 research, 41% of all fish dwell in freshwater habitats. So it’s difficult to come up with an exact answer, but it’s probably around 13,000.
